Top Dressings The maintenance principle for both Golf and Bowls is to provide a firm, true and even surface that drains freely. It is vital that the surface is level and free from undulations for the balls or woods to roll without deviation. The application of a top dressing fills in any minor hollows that may have developed, whilst also building up a supreme soil layer over the years.
All of our fine turf dressings are screened down to 3mm and sterilized. The fine screen size ensures that the material runs freely and spreads easily whilst the sterilisation destroys any harmful bacteria, weed seed or fungus. Sterilization is performed by treating the material with heat at a temperature of over 50°C, using a natural gas to ensure an uncontaminated product. Our process uses lattice screening, which unlike piano wire screening produces a reliable stone-free mix which will not damage equipment. The majority of our dressings use the famous Eagle 30 Sand as a base, which is a superb coarse grade silica sand. We make many different standard compositions of Turf Dressings, which are listed below. However we appreciate that occasionally a customised mix is required-for example, using the same sand from which the course has been constructed. In addition to these dressings we have also developed two organic, soil-less and peat free dressings:- Humix This is a soil-less free draining dressing which contains Eagle 30 sand and Humost. Humost is a naturally composted organic material which contains many nutrients which are progressively released into the soil as mineralization takes place. Humix Plus This is a progression of Humix with the addition of a seaweed-derived fertilizer.
We understand that a very fine dressing may be superfluous for certain situations such as football and rugby pitches. For this very reason we also make Contractor Dressings which are screened to 5mm, again through the lattice screen and are available par dried.
Where price has a strong influence our Contractor Dressings use excellent quality materials that enable budgets to be met and schedules to be kept, without sacrificing quality.
