Sands

With the exception of the Playpit Sand all our Sports Sands are medium or coarse.  This is essential for drainage as fine sands will only worsen the problem by clogging the soil’s pores.  When applied to fine turf areas, Sports Sand can be very effective at controlling moss and improving drainage.  All our sands originate from land-based sources and are therefore salt and lime-free. 

Marine sands are not at all suitable for sports applications.  Whilst the economy of marine sands seems attractive and their initial use does not appear to have a detrimental effect, the long term effects can be quite damaging to growth and appearance.

Dressing Sands fall broadly into two categories; the first is usually spread generously over the entire playing surface in order to improve drainage and soil conditions, whilst the second is something of a remedy to rescue flooded patches and boggy areas.  In addition to our Dressing Sands we also stock a very fine, soft Playpit Sand which is ideal for playpits and jumping pits.

Our Range Of Sports Sands Eagle 30 Washed This is a superb coarse grade silica sand which is ideal for top dressing and bunker use.  It's rounded grains which are broadly a singular size perform best in that their hydraulic conductivity (effectively their degree of porosity) helps the egress of water.   Eagle 30 Kiln Dried As Eagle 30 but dried to a temperature of over 60°C.  For this drying process we use a natural gas to ensure an uncontaminated product.  This sand has a neutral pH and is of course free-draining for sand dressing.   MW Sand This is an excellent sand for use on pitches, with a balanced pH that will not harm grass.  It is ideal for goal mouths, low areas and areas prone to flooding and bogginess.  This sand can be used to generously treat flooded patches to provide an instant solution with no long term ill effects at a very modest cost   Playpit Sand An inert, non staining, soft, white sand.  Ideal for use in Playpits and Jumping Pits.  Non-allergic and very clean.  Stays in the pit not on the children!   Sand for Events We are frequently contacted by companies that need sand for outdoor events, as well as television, film and photographic shoots.  In many cases we are able to hire the sand out for such an occasion and then come and collect it back once the event is over.  No headaches, heartaches and what a glorious way to recycle!   For further details click here
